by Bernard Shaw.
An incident that might have happened in the life of Napoleon Bonaparte as a young man.
The action of the play takes place in a small inn in the north of Italy between Lodi and Milan in the year 1798. The French, under Napoleon, who was then only twenty-seven, were fighting the Austrians to drive them out of Italy with the object of liberating the Italians preparatory to annexing the country.
