1/2. Margherita Taylor reports from Port of Spain to tell the story of Trinidad's carnival and how calypso, steel pan and masquerade have emerged as its defining features. This first instalment recalls the songs and dances of 19th-century slaves who defied the colonial rulers with their so-called subversive parties. Contributors include calypsonians Lord Relator and Dr Pat Bishop (director of Trinidad's Carnival Institute).

New series 1/6. In her customary nostalgic way, singer Suzi Quatro pays tribute to the mavericks of rock 'n' roll, profiling both the recognised giants and the unsung heroes. She gets the ball rolling with Legends of Doo-wop, a modern quartet of men who collectively resurrect songs performed by the acts each originally sang with back in the 50s - the Imagination, the Passions, the 5 Sharks, and the Fascinators.
