2/6. Arranger Billy May, who died in January 2004, aged 87, claims to have found his profession during his time spent in the school band as a tuba player observing the other instruments.
Russell Davies recalls May's colossal career of arranging, composing and conducting, running the gamut of genres - big band, jazz, pop and comedy - and working with a who's who of 20th-century greats including Ella Fitzgerald , Glenn Miller , Frank Sinatra , Judy Garland , Peggy Lee , Nat "King" Cole and Stan Freberg.
