2/6. Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson returns with a new series tracing the evolution of hard rock and heavy metal.
This edition profiles singer Ian Gillan , who joined Deep Purple in 1969 but left in late 1973 following tensions with guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. But after a decade of other projects - a brief spell in the motorbike industry, the jazz-inspired Ian
Gillan Band and the straight-up hard-rocking band Gillan, and a year spent with Black Sabbath - Gillan returned in 1984 to a reformed Deep Purple, where he's rocked ever since.
