Roger Royle concludes his series about the beliefs and customs of the major civilisations that existed before the birth of Christ.
Today's programme reveals how Herod built the last temple in Jerusalem and how the Romans destroyed it. A rebellion against Rome was staged by the people of the hilltop stronghold of Massada, where Royle tells the story of the Roman occupation of Palestine, the birth of Christianity and the end of the ancient world.
