To mark the 50th anniversary of VJ Day,
Charlie Chester presents a programme recorded in Thailand, Malaysia and Hong Kong. Veterans recall their experiences during the war in the Far East, which ended with the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima, on 6 August, and Nagasaki, on 9 August, half a century ago.

The programme goes island-hopping for the summer. Roger Royle 's second port of call is the Isle of Man for the 21st
Mananan Festival of Music and Arts. Tonight's hymns are sung by the choir and congregation of St
Catherine's Church, Port Erin, with the help of the Rushen Silver band. They include, What a friend we have in Jesus; 0 Lord of every lovely thing; God be in my head.

Sheridan Morley on the evening after his Radio 2 concert. Now reunited with the London Symphony
Orchestra that he did so much to rebuild 30 years ago, and working on the score for his first opera as well as releasing a new jazz-improvised CD of Showboat, Previn remains one of the most versatile and prolific of music maestros.
