1974: disaster was all the rage; if you weren't fried in a Towering Inferno, the Earthquake would get you. The makers of the Airport movies were earning so much they rushed out Airport 75 a year early. Crime, too, was a popular draw, with Chinatown, Murder on the Orient Express, and Godfather II. But there to keep a sense of proportion was Mel Brooks , with the excellent Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles.
