Professor Penmore has been sentenced to ten years' imprisonment for violating the Official Secrets Act. His daughter Pat is convinced of his innocence. Unknown to her, Ian Lambert, her fiance, has agreed to work with Superintendent Gage, the police officer in charge of the case, to clear up some unanswered questions. Ian hopes to find proof of Penmore's innocence, but the first evidence he comes upon seems to confirm the Professor's guilt.
