The second of 12 programmes. Towards the end of the 16th century, a number of ex-patriot musicians took a style of English consort music to the Continent. One of the most influential was the Catholic composer Peter Philips. Pieces composed and arranged by Philips, probably for a violin band at the Brussels Court, are played by the PARLEY OF INSTRUMENTS directed by PETER HOLMAN and MARK CAUDLE.
