A musical reconstruction of the medieval festivities, performed by the NEW LONDON CONSORT directed by PHILIP PICKETT with ROBERT STEPHENS (narrator) A degree of licence was tolerated by the church authorities, and the minor orders, abetted by the townsfolk, sought relief from the year's onerous duties in a burlesque of the familiar sacred rituals.
