A 17th-century farce by EDWARD RAVEN SCROFT arranged for stereo by RAYMOND RAIKES , with songs and music by STEPHEN DODGSON
In an the days of Charles II there was no more popular comedy with the town than The London Cuckolds which, as Crbber tells us, also enjoyed the highest court favour. It was originally produced at the Duke's Theatre in Dorset Gar den on 22 November 1681 Its author, Edward Ravenscroft (16431707) has been called 'the Father of Farce and Pantomime' for he was the first English playwright to introduce into one of his farces (1677) the characters of the Oommedia dell' Arte - thus starting the pantomime tradition of Harlequirrade.
