4.0* Pilgrimage to Beethoven A short story by RICHARD wagner adapted by CHARLES osborne
It was in 1840, as a young man living in Paris, that Wagner wrote this fictional account of a visit to Beethoven. The two men, in fact, had never met: Wagner was 14 when Beethoven died. But the story is more than a literary curiosity: it reveals a great deal that is perhaps surprising about its author.
