Animal behaviour studies are a new subject attracting much interest. We are getting accustomed to the idea that animal behaviour may throw much light on human society. Initially, ethology has been much concerned with aggression and its social functions: this pair of talks suggests that ' showing off ' may be even more important as a force shaping animal and human society.
