The French composer Marius Constant was born in Bucharest in 1925 and studied at the Paris Conservatoire, where he won the Premier prix for composition. He scored a notable success at Covent Garden earlier this year with his ballet Lc paradis perdu. Eloge de la folic dates from 1966, when it was first performed by the Ballets Roland Petit.
LEO WURMSER heard a number of performances conducted by Strauss during the 1930s. He talks about Strauss as an interpreter and discusses excerpts from his records of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, the Prelude to Tristan and Isolde, and other works
