[Page 4 article] 'People don't buy rubbish,' asserted Tommy Vance, when I talked to him about his new role as presenter of Top 40 (Sunday 5.0 pm), which reflects, of course, the buying habits of the public rather than, in my view, the quality of the music. Incidentally, its audience is the biggest for any radio programme in Western Europe.
I'm pleased to report that the eclectic Tommy will continue to be heard on his Friday Rock Show (10.0 pm).
Tom Dowd (Part 2 of 2) Introduced by Andy Peebles
This week's programme completes the career of Tom Dowd and features his work with Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, the Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton and Rod Stewart.
He maintains a record of success that has yet to be surpassed although now working on only four or five albums a year, compared with dozens in the mid-60s.
