with an appreciation of Carole King
'She is the major female pop songwriter of the 60s who turned out a series of wonderful hits for a wide variety of artists and shocked everyone by releasing an all-time classic LP of her own in 1971 - that being "Tapestry". Her hit single of the early 60s "It might as well rain until September" had not shown evidence of her vocal ability, of her skill at the piano and of the way she could breathe into her songs that extra amount of meaning that can only come from the person who wrote it. She made several more fine tracks in the 70s but no album to equal "Tapestry" which remains the finest album ever from a female singer-songwriter'.
