No other American group has come to be so closely associated with a particular life style in the way that The Beach Boys have.
Their main songwriter, Brian Wilson had an amazing knack of conveying on record the sun and sea life style enjoyed by Californian teenagers. The dream they offered was lost when Wilson's experiments with drugs damaged his mind.
Nevertheless they are as popular as ever in the USA. The tremendous size of their concert audiences suggests not so much that the fans are unaware that they haven't had an original big hit in years, but that the appeal of The Beach Boys' fantasy is timeless.'

Kid is 'delighted to be back on Radio 1' but has found that the British music scene has changed since he's been away in the States. ' I've had a lot of catching up to do,' he says, 'the scene over there is so different.
Although Atlanta, where I was, has 44 radio stations, only three of them play the sort of music you'd hear here.'
And his new programme? ' I want to play a mix of everything and I'll definitely be keeping sessions from new bands. My only reservation about coming back is that things happen so quickly ...'
