Doctors' receptionists have recently been a topic of discussion, and Mrs Bullock of Birmingham (a doctor's receptionist) wrote: "I know Miss Nightingale's sort only too well and can tell them as soon as they walk through the surgery door. They are like spoilt brats who expect to be shown to the doctor's door immediately on arrival.
Well, I soon cut them down to size, and if Miss Nightingale ever came into my surgery with her arrogant attitude, she would soon get her medicine - good and proper!"
