This phone-line message came in from two listeners in Burnley:
' We're calling to see if we can get things straightened out about the image of the North West. We don't live in the flat-cap, black puding and clogs era and we don't walk around kicking cans. We do not all listen to brass bands, as most producers seem to think when choosing the opening music for programmes about the North West. and the famous Lancashire dialect is virtually dead, apart from the few old people and looney preservation societies who try to keep it going. And please could DJS, when reading out requests from someone in the North West stop putting on a pseudo-Lancashire accent. And finally, as far as Burnley is concerned, it is not all filthy smoking chimneys and grimey backstreets. And the majority of people do not live in terraced houses.'
