Forty years ago, the American civil rights protests dominated the headlines around the world. Martin Luther King had become famous for organising a bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama. But, in 1963, Britain too had a bus boycott to protest against Bristol Omnibus Company's refusal to employ black staff.
