Scribbling in the Dark Paul Allen finds out what drives some men and women into the theatre every night, from which they emerge with a clear view and a deadline to meet. They are the critics, that band of scribblers whose opinions can affect the livelihoods of actors, and the careers of writers. How do they remain fresh, how easily do they put the boot in. and why is theatre so important to them? Producer Mike Greenwood

The second of two true enquiries.
The Message in the Marble Since its erection in February 1741, the celebrated monument to Shakespeare in Westminster Abbey's Poets' Corner has kept a little-known secret.
Prospero's lines from The Tempest, carved on the marble scroll, are wrong. Not just a slip of the chisel, but deliberately misquoted and rearranged. On the monument's 250th anniversary, investigators Thomas Bokenham and Richard Barker think they know why the Bard was butchered.
