Works of Nature
Jewellers and instrument makers are finding raw materials other than ivory and tortoiseshell, and furniture makers are turning from exotic hardwoods to native timbers. This is not only because materials are getting scarce, but because of growing ecological concern among craft workers. Fine artists, too, are looking differently at the natural world, seeking not only inspiration, but appropriate materials.
Rosemary Hill talks to craft workers and artists whose work is interwoven with the way they live.
