In the first of this year's series of seven international phone-in programmes, callers worldwide are invited to put questions to Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland. Norway's first woman prime minister, Mrs Brundtland took office last May. Once described as 'tougher than any man', she has needed all her political skills to cope with the problems caused for the Norwegian economy by the decline in the price of oil. Since 1984 Mrs Brundtland has been Chairman of the United Nations
Commission on Environment and Development, which has been conducting one of the most extensive inquiries ever made into the environmental state of the planet Earth. Its report was published last Monday.
