In England and Scotland today voters have been going to the polls in a variety of local government elections. It's the first time the Liberal/SDP Alliance has been put to any national test, and whatever happens to them - or to any other party - tonight's results should determine who'll be running your district council, regional council or London borough tor the next few years.
To bring you the results as they come in, and to unravel their implications, Brian Redhead is joined by Robert Carvel, Political Editor of the London Standard, and senior Westminster politicians.
