A friend inadvertently bit into a slug while eating a salad, and for some hours afterwards one side of her tongue felt anaesthetised, rather as if she had had an injection from the dentist. How could a slug produce this effect?

The National Theatre production of MOLIÈRE'S classic English version by TONY HARRISON with Alec McCowen and Diana Rigg This version was commissioned by The National Theatre to celebrate the tercentenary of Moliere's death in 1973. Tony Harrison and the director John Dexter set the play in 1966 during the ' reign ' of Charles de Gaulle, exactly 300 years after the first performance of Le Misanthrope. This radio production is presented to celebrate the introductory season in the Lyttleton Theatre at the new National Theatre on the South Bank.
