Fourteen years ago that was Ann Hodges , an autistic child born before the handicap was generally recognised. Today, through the remarkable devotion and strength of her family. Ann can read. write, talk, is affectionate - and wants a job. In the first part of this programme the Hodges tell the story of Ann's release from her very private world. But what is autism, what are the problems of diagnosis and treatment, and what help is available? That is the theme of the discussion which follows the story of Ann, between three experts on autism:

Freeman of the Borough of Rawtenstall in the County of Lancashire. They celebrate their golden jubilee with reminiscences and some favourite items from their wide repertoire.
