In 1904 the two young sons of a Shoreditch grocer failed their Civil Service examinations, so they sold their textbooks. So began Foyles, now one of the biggest bookshops in the world.
Today the business is dominated by Christina Foyle , daughter of one of the founders. Soon after she joined she started the Foyles Literary. Luncheons, now about to start their fifth hundred.
