General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in Western Europe and former President of the United States with Walter Cronkite of the Columbia Broadcasting System.

In a joint BBC-CBS production two great allied war leaders are, linked live by communications satellite to recall the years between 1939 and 1945.

In Europe: Outside Broadcast cameras revisit some of the famous place-names of World War Two.
In London: the underground rooms from which Sir Winston Churchill directed the Battle of Britain.
At Coventry: from the ruins of the old cathedral and its successor.
At Monte Casino: where the battle for Rome was decided in Normandy where British and American forces began the final battle for Europe.
At Belsen concentration camp
In Berlin: the fall of the Reichstag.
In Rheims: the signing of the German surrender.
Reporters at these locations compare the scene today with film shot at the time of the action.
