It is the last semi-final, with three chefs still to do battle for a place in finals week. They are sent to work under one of the country's rising stars - Michelin-starred chef George Blogg. His unique culinary style takes inspiration and capitalises on being situated within one of the UK's most prominent, established and formative kitchen gardens at the exclusive Gravetye Manor.
The chefs enter George's kitchen and are given the honour and nervewracking experience of being responsible for one of George's dishes each during a packed lunchtime service. George was awarded a Michelin star within a year of taking over the restaurant and standards are sky high for the diners who travel from across the country to eat his menu. Under George's watchful gaze and firm guidance, the competitors will be hard pushed to keep up with the frantic pace.
The challenge does not end there. Service may be behind them but the chefs return the next day to take further inspiration from chef George and prove to him they have what it takes to emulate his style. The professionals must cook his own signature dish, a garden salad that is so seasonal, the ingredients change daily. They have to prove they understand George's philosophy and showcase their palate and creativity by first selecting their own produce from the 500 on offer in the two-acre kitchen garden. This is their chance to deliver a dish in the hopes of impressing George one final time.
Finally, the chefs cook a two-course menu for Marcus and Monica. A main course and a dessert stand between them and a place in finals week. The judges expect confident, flawless cooking at this stage, and with the competition so ferocious, the three chefs must aim for nothing short of perfection. Only the strongest two chefs will go through. Show less
