In his last talk on the Survey of English Dialects published by the University of Leeds, Professor Orton examines the vocabulary and grammatical structure of the language of rural communities and suggests some lines for future research.

Nearly thirty years ago Le Corbusier set down (in When the Cathedrals Were White) his deep concern for the United States and his belief that. in spite of all the ' inhuman jazz,' it would be the first to achieve an architecture to honour modern life. Yet it is only this year that he completed a commission there.
