Nearly thirty years ago Le Corbusier set down (in When the Cathedrals Were White) his deep concern for the United States and his belief that. in spite of all the ' inhuman jazz,' it would be the first to achieve an architecture to honour modern life. Yet it is only this year that he completed a commission there.
