by Stuart Atherley
At Troezen in Southern Greece an inscription was found in 1959 which has caused a considerable stir among scholars. It throws new light on the great Persian invasion of Greece in 480 B.C. and may lead to a clearer understanding of the Greek strategy underlying the Battles of Artemisium, Thermopylae and Salamis.
Stuart Atherley seeks to show that the contents of the inscription fit exactly into the already existing evidence. His own reconstruction of this Persian campaign was achieved long before the inscription was discovered, and was based on many years' study of the Persian Wars as well as intensive experience of military campaigning.
