A programme on The Spasmodics, a quartet of poets discovered and launched by the Rev. George Gilfillan (1813-1878). Like ether critics before and since, Gilfillan was at his weakest in judging the poetry of his own time. The tide of the school dates from their dethronement by W. E. Aytoun in his satire ' Firmilian, a Spasmodic Tragedy.'
