The Rev. J. M. D. Stancomb was a Stewart of Rannoch scholar at Cambridge University in 1910, and a choral scholar at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. For some time he was precentor at Bristol Cathedral, and since 1928 he has been vicar of St. Nicholas Church, Bristol, from which a service was broadcast on Good Friday for many years. The curfew has been rung at St. Nicholas since 1074.
