The Treorchy Royal Welsh Male Choir has been established for an unbroken period of fifty-three years. It was formed in 1883 under the conductorship of the late William Thomas, Treorchy, who is well remembered by the older generation of music lovers in England and Wales. He conducted the Choir until 1916, a period of thirty-three years. He was succeeded as conductor by Gwilym T. Jones, in 1916, who, prior to this, had been accompanist to the Choir for six years. Gwilym T. Jones, the present conductor, has now completed twenty-six years with the Choir.
This Choir was summoned to appear at a command performance at Windsor Castle, and has appeared eight times before Royalty. The Choir has undertaken many tours, amongst which are included the following countries: the United States of America, Australia, Tasmania, New Zealand, South Africa (three times).
