The Swansea Borough Police Band was formed in 1878 by Captain Colquhoun who was then the Chief Constable. As opportunity has offered, instrumentalists have been recruited from the Guards and Line Regiments.

This is a suite of dance tunes based on those popular in the time of Baron Holberg who lived in the days of Bach and Handel. Holberg was the great Scandinavian poet and dramatist who passed his life in Denmark. He is considered the founder of Danish literature, the greatest of all Danish authors, and excepting Voltaire, the first writer in Europe of his generation. Incidentally, this suite is one of the backbones of the string orchestral repertory, and one of the best known even of Grieg's concert works.
