Bessie Davies (soprano)
Bessie Davies of Tonyrefail carried off the gold medal and silver trophy for the Open Ladies' Silver Cup, the silver cup for the Open Operatic Solo, and a special trophy at the recent Bristol Festival. She won her first prize at the age of six and has since had numerous successes. She attributes her success as a child singer to the tuition she received as a member of the Nantyffyllon Juvenile Choir. Her first National Eisteddfod success was secured at Corwen in 1919, which followed over two hundred prizes in local Eisteddfodau.
