About the year 1862 Swansea was experiencing a religious awakening which resulted in the building of many churches in the district. The existence of Fabian's Bay Church is partially accounted for by this wave of religious enthusiasm. The church had its early beginnings in the home of a pious man called William Owen —' Wil y Gof ', as he was familiarly and affectionately called. This house may still be seen in Miers Street, Swansea.
