Long before broadcasting was heard of in this country, Augustus Beddie was a popular artist with concert audiences in nearly every part of Scotland. 
His insight into Scottish character, his knowledge of the vernacular, and his ability to feel and reproduce the atmosphere of any particular sketch or recitation are his qualities as a performer. 
It must be many years since he first told the pretty sentimental story of ' A Sprig of Appleringie' with its Edinburgh setting. Joseph Laing Waugh is the author he favour* most, though Ian MacLaren provides him with suitable material.
