EDITH DOWLING
Directed by John MacArthur
John MacArthur has been rehearsing his quintet daily for years and his motto is ' Stormy rehearsal—smooth performance '. Listeners, however, hear only his smooth performances.
Although he has been broadcasting since 1929 and has played at the microphone three hundred times he still puts in a great deal of special work in preparing his radio programmes.
Tradition has it that only
Dorothy Meaton , his pianist, does not stand in awe of John MacArthur at rehearsals. Maybe it is something to do with the fact that she is Mrs. John MacArthur.
