Conducted by the Rev. W. T. Tilsley ,
Claremont Street Methodist Church,
Glasgow
Conductor, Thorpe Davie
This choir was formed about twenty years ago as a direct outcome of the festival movement. It soon took a high place among women's choirs, and has gained first prize at the Glasgow Festival on many occasions. One of the reasons for its success may be the fact that the choristers are individually pupils of the conductor, who is the father of Cedric Thorpe Davie , the composer, whose ' Dirge for Cuthullinn ' was recently heard in a Scottish programme.
An Olla Podrida ,
Devised by G. K. Young and J. W. Taylor
Music by Douglas Steen
Production by Robin Russell
Our dictionary says that an Olla Podrida is a Spanish stew of meat and vegetables, and the authors, in transferring the term to a revue, have in mind the readiness with which one subject gets mixed up with another in conversation. You start talking about mushrooms, but before long everyone is arguing about politics and the next moment women's fashiryns hold the field.
In tonight's entertainment one more feather will be added to the already considerable plumage in the cap of Inspector Hornleigh, for he will be parodied under the title of Inspector Hornspoon. There will be jokes about BBC dramatic effects, Austrian folk songs, and policemen's fashions.
The authors, G. K. Young and Wilfred Taylor , were at St. Andrews together, and now work on the staffs of two leading Scottish journals.
