Under the direction of HERBERT WISEMAN HELEN HENSCHEL (mezzo-contralto) HAROLD CRAXTON (pianoforte) THE GRILLER STRING QUARTET THE SUMMER SCHOOL CHOIR AND ORCHESTRA Conducted by JOHN BARBIROLLI
A Programme of Miscellaneous items by the above artists from the Common Room, St. Salvator's Hall of Residence, St. Andrew's University
This summer school began in St. Andrews in 1924 and has been held there every year since, with the exception of 1926, when it took place in Edinburgh. The mornings are devoted to lectures, the afternoons to sport, and the evenings to choral and orchestral rehearsals and informal music-making. Students come from all over Britain, from Canada, the United States and Australia, and numerous distinguished musicians have taken part. Except for two years when he was guest lecturer in Columbia University, New York, Herbert Wiseman has always been Director of the school.
Mr. Wiseman is Director of Music to the Education Committee of Edinburgh and, of course, is well known all over the country for his broadcasts to Scottish schools.
