Some Footnotes to the Holidays 
' So, au revoir; we may return once more; 
For when the summer holidays begin We'll take the boat, and, passing by thy shore 
We may drop in.' While Glasgow holiday-makers are coming back to ' auld claes and parritch ', the good people of Edinburgh are rushing to the coast and elsewhere for the summer break. Tonight the captain of a Clyde pleasure steamer, a Glasgow housewife, a mountaineer, and perhaps John R. Allan will tell their experiences of the great exodus. Mr. Allan, who has achieved fame with his newly published book, ' Farmer's Boy  expects to see his auntie safely into the Stonehaven train and get back to the studio in time to describe the scene at Waverley Station, Edinburgh. 
A railway station is an interesting place at any time, and at holiday time more than any other. Thousands of eyes on indicators, masses of people. Father with the hand-luggage, mother with baby, children with spades and buckets ; young men and women with cameras, old ladies asking the porters ridiculous questions. Bustle, excitement. Crowds sweeping from platform to platform..... Coming and going. Tanned faces coming back from the holidays, pale faces about to leave. Retrospect and anticipation are the keynotes of tonight's programme.
