THE REID ORCHESTRA
Conductor, Sir DONALD F. TOVEY
MILTON KNIGHT (flute)
Sir DONALD F. TOVEY (pianoforte)
This programme has several interesting features, the first of these being the inclusion of General Reid's march, written by the General Reid with whose name the Orchestra is associated. Secondly, the flute sonata is a recently discovered work by General Reid. It was known that he composed this, but the work was untraced until last summer, when Sir Donald Tovey received a communication from a ladv in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This lady is in possession of the manuscript of the sonata and on hearing of the Reid Orchestra and Professor Tovey, she sent across a photostat ot the sonata. It is not known how this sonata came to be in America, but the General fought at the battle of Ticonderoga in 1759. The programme also contains a new set of dances by Mozart, collected by Sir Donald.
