John Brown
John Brown's story has nothing of the commonplace about it. This young author of 'I Was a Tramp' is the man who accepted Lord Nuffield's challenge to go to Russia to investigate conditions there; he was then a workers' organiser and unemployed leader, and he had earlier spent many days 'making both ends meet' while he was a student at Oxford.
Many other adventures have been crammed into an exciting life, not the least of them being his journalistic experiences in Europe and America.
