A Play specially written for broadcasting by PAT FORREST
(From Newcastle)
It is the aim of the author to try to show in this play what happens to various People in a miner's family under conditions of part-time employment. Pat Forrest has had great experience of the mines, and in his recent tour of several mining districts he was struck by the good humour cloaking the grim poverty of these people's lives and the pluck they show when they are up against it.
Many dialects may be traced among miners owing to the fact that years ago people from all parts came as pioneers to the coalfields. Here in Durham you may hear Irish, Welsh, Scottish, Lancashire, Yorkshire all discernible in a lingo known as ' Pitmatick '.
