Northern Ireland now has twenty-two Youth Hostels and 2,000 members of the Youth Hostel Association. First formed in Germany by Richard Schirrmann in 1910, the organisation grew rapidly up to the outbreak of war in 1914 and again afterwards. It made its first appearance in Northern Ireland in December, 1931, when the first hostel was set up at Dromara, County Down. In tonight's talk the objects and advantages of the movement will be outlined, and an appeal made for more young members.
