A Linen-workers' Smoking Concert in the old days
Devised by RUDDICK MILLAR
Production by EDWARD WILKINSON
Tonight Northern Ireland listeners arc invited to a ' Rabscallion ' or smoking concert such as the linen workers of the 'nineties used to hold in celebration of births, weddings, apprentices ending their time, and events of this kind. One of these rabscallions-or, as they were generally called, ' rabs '-is to be reconstructed for the microphone, and __ ■ Edward Wilkinson , who produces it, has done a considerable amount of research in order to discover the old tunes and songs that the workers used to sing at these concerts.
