A COASTWISE SAILOR
Great Britain's coastal trade goes on daily, and the public knows little of the hazards and adventures of the coastwise sailor. Tonight, a coastwise sailor is to tell listeners something of his daily life and work. Deep-sea sailors are often unaware of the skill necessary for navigating a coastal vessel, and there is little glamour or romance about the coastal steamer. The pithy retort of the master of a coaster to a question by a deep-sea captain embodies in a nut-shell the whole difference between deep-sea and coastwise navigation. The deep sea captain said : ' You limpet-scrapers are quite happy near the land, but how do you feet when it fades below the horizon ? ' ' The same as you feel when you draw near the land and can't see the pilot boat,' retorted the coastwise skipper.
