Tewkesbury Drama Festival
The closing scenes of ' Jonah and the Whale' by James Bridie with Stephen Murray as Jonah
Performed in the open air against the West Front of the Abbey and produced by Frank Napier
Commentary by Anthony McDonald
The West Front of Tewkesbury Abbey is enclosed by trees on the one side and a high wall on the other. This makes a setting not only impressive to behold but acoustically perfect.
This will be the first time that any part of Jonah and the Whale has been heard on the air. The author, James Bridie , wrote it soon after The Anatomist, the extraordinarily successful play with which the Westminster Theatre was opened in 1931.
